Emergency in Ogliastra due to a large fire that broke out late yesterday evening, shortly after 9:30 pm, which continued to burn throughout the night.

The flames started in the Jerzu area, in the Costa Is Paganus area, and then travelled towards Cardedu and reached the crest of Monte Ferru.

It was impossible for aircraft to take off during the night: the front was monitored by teams on the ground, but they were unable to intervene because the area is very inaccessible and there are no paths or trails to reach it.

The Forestry Corps operations center, in via Biasi in Cagliari, requested the intervention of two Canadairs and three helicopters, which can only operate in sunlight.

The fire has meanwhile reached the crest of the mountain. The only good news is that in those areas the mistral wind that is blowing strongly on the rest of the island has a lessened effect . But, on the other hand, due to the drought that has hit Ogliastra there is an enormous quantity of dry vegetation.
