Big fire between Monserrato and Selargius, some houses evacuated

A large fire broke out in the early afternoon in a reed thicket near via Riu Mortu, between Monserrato and Selargius .

The flames, pushed by the strong wind, came dangerously close to the houses . A thick blanket of black smoke rose into the sky, visible even from kilometers away.

After the alarm raised by residents on site, three fire brigade teams arrived and evacuated some homes as a precaution . Also on site were the Norm carabinieri of the Quartu Company engaged in managing the road system.

The flames, according to an initial reconstruction, started from Viale Vienna and spread towards Via Riu Mortu.

The fire is now under control, although the wind makes extinguishing and clean-up operations very challenging .
