The mayors of Sardinia's 11 restricted-access coastlines are dodging the controversy sparked by their decision to restrict access to beaches.

The motivation is almost unanimous: "The priority must be environmental protection , so it is right that it should be this way."

An example? In Santa Teresa Gallura, Mayor Nadia Matta welcomes the first effects of the "anti-invasion" measures: "The water at Rena Bianca is clear again after years."
