A record-breaking 20th edition of the “New Year’s Dive” was the splendid postcard offered by the city of Porto Torres to wish a happy 2025.

About 200 brave people have challenged the freezing waters of the Balai sea. The water temperature was 10 degrees compared to the 15 degrees outside. Participants came from all over Sardinia, some beyond the Tyrrhenian Sea, others crossed the borders of Italy, with registrations arriving from Lyon and London.

They animated the beach since the early hours of the morning, participating in the many warm-up moments before facing the prohibitive internal temperatures. Dancing and singing on the seashore before the countdown, at midday sharp, and then everyone in the water for a collective auspicious swim.

And the veterans of the initiative could not be missing, Salvatore Delogu, who will turn 90 on January 25, and the former butcher Piero Tanca, 87 years old , as well as 26 children and young people and a female presence that reaches 45 percent of the members.

"For twenty years we have not missed the appointment, a bath of health and good wishes with the hope of returning here next year", said the participants.

The waters in front of Balai beach were framed by the kayaks of the Azen group that traveled along the coast from Scoglio Lungo beach to Balai bay. The organizers - Lello Cau, Romano Chessa, Pietro Saiglia and Alessandra Onida - were satisfied and for some years they have been pursuing the mission of donating the proceeds to Emergency , a humanitarian association that promotes human rights and the culture of peace.
