Rain, even heavy, in Southern Sardinia. But the danger has been averted, at least for now, because the strong storms forecast have broken out at sea, sparing the cities and towns .

Daniela Pani, from the Regional Civil Protection Directorate , explains: «The phenomenon was highly unpredictable precisely because heavy thunderstorms were forecast along with rain and showers, which bring with them great uncertainty », she states.

«Fortunately, the famous 50 km that don't make a difference for the weather but do for the territory meant that the storms developed mainly at sea ».

And if someone, in light of what has happened so far, argues about an alleged excess of caution that led to the closure of schools, Daniela Pani points out: «The evaluation of the risk scenario based on the meteorological information that arrives is always a job of great protection and self-protection. The choice of scenarios is always in favor of the protection of human lives, animals and property ».

The alert has been extended until 9 am on Friday 13 December, but from orange it becomes yellow . An ordinary criticality for hydrogeological risk remains on Iglesiente, Campidano, Montevecchio Pischinappiu, Flumendosa Flumineddu and Tirso.

In Cagliari, as is known, for today alone (December 12) the closure of schools, university campuses, nursery schools, parks and cemeteries has been ordered. The Terramaini swimming pool in Pirri has also been closed. The Municipality has invited citizens to avoid travel "as much as possible" and to "keep access roads and hospital facilities free". Pirri, as always, under special observation: "We also invite, in this territorial area, to avoid travel as much as possible in relation to the closures of access roads to the Municipality's territory provided for by the Civil Protection Plan".

The other Municipalities of the Metropolitan City have also ordered the closure of schools, except those of Selargius, Quartu and Villa San Pietro where lessons were held regularly . The mayor of Quartu Graziano Milia is categorical , and in between the lines he reproaches Massimo Zedda for being excessively cautious: « The alert was orange, we close schools only when it is red, when there is a serious danger. We should investigate and understand why we are in this condition, perhaps also reorganize a little the choices and decisions to be made in these situations ».
