"We are carrying out inspections to assess the damage and we are preparing the resolution to proclaim the state of natural disaster".
This was announced by the mayor of Cagliari, Paolo Truzzu, after an initial assessment of the damage caused by the "water bombs" that devastated the capital over the weekend and, more generally, South Sardinia and Sulcis, where a victim (an 81 year old from Sant'Anna Arresi).
"Thanks to all the staff and volunteers who since yesterday morning have intensified their efforts to cope with the emergency, closing the roads and helping citizens in difficulty - wrote the mayor on his Facebook profile.
"In the city, despite the flooded streets and some dangerous failures, there were no consequences for the people. And this is already good news", added Truzzu, who in these hours has also issued an ordinance for the closure of schools , parks other public places. "I'm sorry - continued the mayor - for all the citizens who once again found themselves with the premises, cellars and houses flooded. On Friday morning we approved the projects for the collectors of Pirri and via Campeda, who requested an adjustment to the financing initially envisaged. We hope next summer we will be able to start work and resolve a situation that has been repeated for a long, long time ".
