No responsibility for the death of little Gian Piero Corrò, who died at 17 months in Alà dei Sardi in February 2018 due to cardiorespiratory failure.

This is the sentence pronounced this afternoon in court in Sassari by Judge Antonio Spanu in favor of the two doctors accused of manslaughter for not having diagnosed the child's pathology when he showed up at the emergency room in Ozieri on February 28, 6 years ago. Alessandra Sini, on duty in the pediatrics department, and Grazia Deledda , an emergency room doctor, had discharged the little boy, prescribing him antibiotics. The child began to feel ill as soon as he arrived in town, dying about two hours later despite repeated attempts at resuscitation by 118.

The cause of death was “acute respiratory distress syndrome with initial disseminated intravascular coagulation” . Three expert reports were ordered over the years to shed light on any possible responsibility of the doctors and which had led to totally opposite considerations between the prosecution and the defense. The prosecutor Erica Angioni reiterated today in the hearing her request for a sentence of one year and six months for Deledda and two years for Sini while the defense, the lawyers Nicola Satta and Paolo Spano for Deledda and Marco Manelli for Sini confirmed what, according to them, was the total innocence of their clients.

In the end, the verdict was one of acquittal for not having committed the crime.
