After the death of some peacocks in the park of Monte Urpinu, the avian alarm goes off in Cagliari.

The mayor Paolo Truzzu has ordered the immediate closure of all the entrances to the park after the communication sent by the Department of Prevention of the South Area of Animal Health of the ASL.

The report speaks of necessary "restriction and biosecurity measures in order to prevent dangers to health and the environment".

The measures were imposed, as stated in the ordinatory health provision signed by the director of the ASL animal health complex, Mario Ignazio Lai, to "avoid or limit the spread of avian flu and for the disposal of any dead animals".

In fact, the killing of the birds (and not only the peacocks) that live inside the park would have begun this morning. While the veterinarians of the ASL are participating in a videoconference with the national reference center that follows the epidemiological situation of avian flu in Italy.
