The Sassari Court of Appeal confirmed the 10-year prison sentence for the twenty-seven-year-old Roman trapper Elia Di Genova, alias Elia 17 Baby, already sentenced in first instance by the Tempio Pausania Court for stabbing the security guard in the back Fabio Piu from Sassari, on 14 August 2022 on Marinella beach, in Porto Rotondo.

This morning the Court heard the request to confirm the first degree conviction, formulated by prosecutor Roberta Pischedda, joined by the plaintiff's lawyer, Jacopo Merlini.

The lawyers Pietro and Gian Maria Nicotera, defenders of the accused, who attended the hearing via videoconference from prison, had instead requested the reclassification of the crime from attempted murder to personal injury and a reduction of the sentence, contesting the testimonies that proved decisive during a Temple. The young man claimed to have become a "media target".

The attack occurred at the end of a discussion between a group of young Romans, including Elia 17Baby, and the security staff of a nightclub who had sent them away because they were too annoying. Piu also intervened in the discussion, trying to calm things down and convince the group that had arrived from the capital to leave. According to what emerged at first instance, Piu was then attacked from behind by the group, who kicked and punched him even while he was on the ground. The security guard got up to face his attackers and was hit in the back by a blow inflicted by Elia Di Genova. The stab wound had damaged the spine, forcing Piu in recent years to be confined to a wheelchair and undergo long and complicated rehabilitation, which has not yet been completed.

After the first sentence , the trapper mocked the victim on social media with posts in which he wrote: «I got 10 years and I laugh, you cry. I'll be waiting for you, Jeeg Robot, put on your rain tyres", alluding to his victim's disability.
