The storm continues over the phrases uttered during a public conference in Monserrato by the director of radiology at Brotzu Paolo Siotto , relaunched by the family doctors' unions and circulated on chats with a short video taken from his speech : «In my opinion, primary care medicine is largely responsible for the disaster of the Italian system, and refuses to adapt to the times, and opposes the possibility of having further responsibilities, this term put in quotation marks».
And today, after the Order of Physicians and Dentists of the province of Cagliari opened an investigation into the case, the scientific director of the event intervened. He defended the head physician, speaking of misunderstandings linked to the extrapolation of fragments from a broader discussion, which "can provide a partial and distorted vision".
"It is undeniable that healthcare, both at regional and national level, is going through a period of considerable criticality - explains Dr. Antonio Attanasio, president of the Order of Medical Radiology Technicians and Technical Health Professions - which involves institutions, professionals, healthcare workers and, above all, citizens. However, Dr. Siotto's words, although easily misunderstood, were part of a broader discussion, aimed at highlighting the complexities of the system and the need to identify concrete solutions. I do not believe his intention was to attack a specific category, but rather to stimulate a constructive debate. As often happens, extrapolating fragments of speeches can provide a partial and distorted vision".
"In such a delicate moment for the health system - Attanasio continues - we must avoid instrumentalizations that could exacerbate tensions instead of encouraging discussion. Pointing the finger at each other or fueling media cases does not help resolve the critical issues of our system . Citizens do not need to witness fratricidal wars between professionals and institutions, which only risk fueling mistrust and confusion. It is a luxury that we cannot afford, especially now, when unity and collaboration are needed to face the challenges that await us together".
"Situations like this must be handled with confidentiality and a constructive spirit," Attanasio further specifies, "away from the spotlight and media exploitation. Amplifying controversies on issues that could be resolved through dialogue does not benefit anyone. We must work together to improve the health system, finding shared solutions that meet the needs of all the actors involved."
" Healthcare needs vision, concrete answers and synergic collaboration between all professions, not divisions and controversies ", the conclusion.
