The Carabinieri hoped to land a good coup in the fight against drug dealing but probably didn't imagine getting their hands on five and a half kilos of ketamine, the largest seizure of this substance in Sardinia. But the soldiers of the investigative unit of the provincial command of Cagliari, in an operation concluded yesterday evening in Assemini, also found half a kilo of cocaine and marijuana and about a kilo of hashish. The two alleged custodians of all the drugs ended up in handcuffs: Federico Martis, 38, and Stefano Concas, 50. At the order of the prosecutor Giangiacomo Pilia they were taken to prison in Uta. Tomorrow the two suspects, assisted by the lawyer Riccardo Floris, will probably appear before the judge to validate the arrest.
The investigation
An operation carried out by the Carabinieri of the provincial investigative unit, coordinated by Commander Nicola Pilia, which began yesterday in great secrecy even though the movements of the Carabinieri patrols in Assemini did not go unnoticed. The greatest attention was paid to Martis, known for some of his specific precedents: he ended up in trouble for possession of ecstasy tablets in 2004, 2008 and 2020. There was suspicion that he was in the middle of a drug dealing ring drug. Various information was thus collected and the investigators also arrived at Concas, who had no criminal record. And following their movements yesterday they decided to launch the raid in the hope of finding drugs.
Hard blow
The search - where all the narcotic substance was found was not disclosed as detectives and investigators maintained maximum confidentiality regarding the operation also because the investigations continued until late in the evening - allowed an enormous quantity of ketamine to be recovered: approximately five and a half kilos of the purest quality. A record seizure on the island of a substance often used and sold in nightclubs: it is an anaesthetic, in liquid or whitish powder, which produces a dissociation between mind and body. At high doses it can cause what is called a near-death experience. The physical and psychological effects are very serious. Other substances were also seized: cocaine, marijuana and hashish. Martis and Concas thus ended up in handcuffs and after a visit to the barracks in via Nuoro, in Cagliari, they were taken to prison. In the guarantee interrogation they will be able to provide their version even if it is likely that they will make use of the right not to answer.
The suspects
The large quantity recovered suggests that the two were part of a much larger group, capable of moving large loads of drugs. This is why the investigations continue.
