The splendid Cala Sant'Andrea, the fully protected coastline of the island of Asinara, has once again been violated by tourists who disrespect the environment.
This morning, a 16-meter catamaran docked in Zone "A," where access by sea and land is strictly prohibited. The captain was fined by the Carabinieri of the Asinara Station, with the support of the Naval Service of the Porto Torres Company. The tourist, on his catamaran, sailed through the protected waters of the Marine Protected Area and then docked there despite the area being inaccessible to protect its extraordinary and unique ecosystem.
Asinara is a unique national park, a veritable temple of terrestrial and marine biodiversity, flora and fauna. To protect this priceless heritage, zones A, B, and C were established, with varying levels of accessibility.
Zone A, in particular, enjoys the highest level of protection as it is deemed to be of exceptional naturalistic, environmental, and landscape interest, requiring a complete ban on access. Carabinieri officers from the Asinara Station and their colleagues from the CC patrol boat No. 810 "Cortellessa" will continue their patrols throughout the summer season to protect Asinara's extraordinary ecosystem.
