Traveling the world by plane at just fifteen years old, Australian pilot Byron Waller stopped in Alghero due to bad weather. His mission is to raise global awareness about pediatric hospitals and the young patients who dream big despite illness and hardship. Byron was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in February 2024 and has been pursuing his challenge ever since. From the Riviera del Corallo airport, he thanked the Sardinians for their warm welcome.
Having departed Palermo for France, Waller was forced to alter his itinerary due to adverse weather conditions. After flying over Sardinia, he decided to return and land in Alghero, waiting for better conditions. Byron Waller, known as the "Teen Pilot Down Under," is in command of his Sling TSi aircraft, registration VH-ZMD. His goal is to become the youngest pilot to circumnavigate the globe, inspiring young people around the world with examples of resilience and problem-solving. His journey began on August 9, 2025, in Brisbane, Australia, and has so far reached Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Greece, and Italy. The diversion to Sardinia was a precautionary measure due to weather, and his journey will resume as soon as conditions permit.
