Speranza had challenged the criminals to defend 20 employees taken hostage within the management of the Ingurtosu mine and the wages of the miners. It was February 9, 1948.

«For his courage and devotion to duty – underlines Marshal Gianluca Passalacqua, who also wrote a historical text in memory of the carabiniere-hero – he was decorated with the silver medal for military valor in memory . Furthermore, the barracks of San Gavino Monreale and a street in Sois, in the Belluno area, were named after him».

Passalacqua, together with the children of the elementary school of Arbus , gave the municipal administration a photo of Giulio Speranza and a plaque in his memory, which will be placed in the council chamber.
