Reported for slander and threats, he was acquitted yesterday in court in Sassari. An end was put to a story that, in 2016, had had a certain echo in Alghero when a 75-year-old had reported the presence of a stranger in the house, with a sea view, assigned to him by Area . The person of Romanian nationality claimed that the apartment had been rented to him by the man himself while the other firmly denied it.
The exchange of views had given rise to an altercation that had led the defendant, according to the charges, to utter threats against the 41-year-old such as “I’ll shoot you” . The elderly man also claimed that the foreigner had stolen some objects from his apartment. And the impetus of the exchange had been such that it had caused the defendant to have a heart attack, ending up in hospital for over a month, also reached by the media who had interviewed him on several occasions.
According to the prosecution, the 75-year-old was aware of the sublet and accused the other of false illegal occupation, while defense attorney Claudio Mastandrea argued, yesterday in the hearing, that the charges were groundless and that the accusation against his client was meaningless. At the end of the hearing - the prosecutor was Paola Manunza - judge Claudia Sechi pronounced the defendant acquittal.
