The unions are raising fresh alarm over the conditions of the Penitentiary Police serving in the Alghero Prison. Consipe National Secretary Roberto Melis denounced the situation, openly speaking of a "serious state of discontent" among the staff, exacerbated by a workload now beyond sustainable limits.

"Despite the commitments made by the Regional Superintendent during the November 6, 2025, meeting," Melis states, "the promises to reduce the prison burden and provide staff support have not been met with any concrete results. On the contrary, 17 new inmates arrived on November 28, without any increase in prison police personnel." This increase, according to the union, has further exacerbated an already critical situation. Complicating the situation is the assignment of inmates with drug addictions or conditions requiring specific medical attention. The union also reports incidents of verbal aggression, including sexist ones, against a female non-commissioned officer. These behaviors, according to Consipe, require "the immediate removal of those responsible."

The staff, already understaffed and strained by demanding shifts, is reportedly exhausted. Excused absences would further reduce the facility's operational capacity, compromising—according to the union—minimum safety standards. Melis reiterates that "immediate and concrete action is needed to guarantee the dignity, safety, and rights of the staff." For this reason, Regional Secretary Ghisaura has sent a letter to the Regional Superintendent, requesting urgent action.
