Cagliari, the Marino community hospital is still a construction site.
The Health Department: "The facility is accredited on time." But at the Poetto facility, no one knows when services will begin.Video di Alessandra Ragas
Orange fences, scaffolding along the façade, construction materials piled up on balconies and in outdoor spaces. This is the scene today outside the Marino Hospital in Cagliari, the building designated to house the Community Hospital, one of the projects included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) for strengthening local healthcare.
"It's not finished yet," is the reply at the entrance when you ask for directions. It's almost impossible to figure out where to go without signs and directions. Then, looking up, you immediately recognize it. Scaffolding and bags of concrete appear next to the recently renovated façade, the sound of workers at work in the background, and next to it, a white and orange sign: "Work in progress for the construction of the community hospital," it reads.
However, the facility is among those listed by the Region as operational, as confirmed in a regional press release: "Commenting on the national ANSA focus – which specifically referred to the Marino site's entry into force – the Health Department offices confirm the results achieved and announce that additional community hospitals have been accredited," thus bringing the total to 19.
But on site, the impression is that the building is still a work in progress. With some areas renovated and others still under construction, the timeframe for fully operational services and the availability of the 40 planned beds remains uncertain.
