The hearing to validate the arrest of the 45-year-old Alghero man who was jailed after a serious incident of violence that occurred Monday evening in an apartment in the Sant'Agostino-Mercede neighborhood has been postponed.

The man is accused of locking his wife inside the house, then assaulting her and shaving her hair. The incident came to light after neighbors, alarmed by the woman's screams, called 112, prompting the Carabinieri to intervene. The hearing, scheduled for this morning, has been postponed.

Meanwhile, the case has been handed over from Chief Prosecutor Gianni Caria to Deputy Prosecutor Angelo Beccu, who is coordinating the investigation into the matter. According to judicial sources, the charge of torture, as provided for by Article 613-bis of the Criminal Code, initially considered in the early stages of the investigation, is likely to be dropped. The emerging charge against the suspect instead is domestic abuse, aggravated by the presence of the couple's minor daughter, who allegedly witnessed the violence taking place within the home.
