Nine years and four months in prison. This is the sentence handed down today in the Sassari court, in a summary trial, by preliminary hearing judge Sergio De Luca against Dimitri Iacono, the 33-year-old from Alghero, accused of extortion, kidnapping, aggravated menacing, and possession of a firearm.

During the hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Erica Angioni recounted the incident, which dates back to December 2024, when Iacono was arrested by the Flying Squad for allegedly kidnapping an Alghero businessman, along with a 16-year-old, and extorting 50,000 euros from him at gunpoint.

According to the charges, the two men had driven the man in his car to a stretch of countryside between Alghero and Bosa. There, after beating him with the butt of their pistol, they demanded the money and, to scare him, fired a shot from the gun, shattering a car window.

The businessman, taken back to his home, had handed the couple approximately €10,000 at his disposal. The two left, threatening the businessman that they would return for the rest. The prosecutor requested a 20-year prison sentence, classifying the crime as kidnapping for extortion. The defendant's lawyers are Elias Vacca and Marco Salaris.
