The mayor of Alghero Mario Conoci met the representatives of the small local navy in turmoil after the decision to close fishing in the bay of Porto Conte, decided by the protected marine area of Capo Caccia-Isola Piana. There was also the director of the park, Mariano Mariani. « Open dialogue, we work together to find solutions that satisfy the needs of all the parties involved», reported the mayor at the end of the meeting which took place in Porta Terra.
The most important innovations contained in the protocol analyzed during the summit concern the reopening of fishing in the bay of Porto Conte from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023, for all fishing gear, with some exceptions in specific periods, in addition the proposal for the immediate involvement of fishermen in two projects of the Marine Protected Area recently financed by MIPAAF. With the implementation of these programs, fishermen will be able to receive a fee for the services they will be able to ensure for the restocking of sea urchins and the monitoring of professional fishing in the marine protected area.
«A table for productive comparison in a climate of full collaboration between the Administration, the Porto Conte Park, manager of the Marine Protected Area, and local fishermen - said Conoci - the need is to reconcile the different needs between the Marine Protected Area, which it is an institution of a ministerial nature and must therefore operate within certain rules, and our navy, which produces and works thanks to the resources of our sea», concluded the mayor.
