Alghero, 5 million spent on the Calich pond: work stalled
The Region had delegated the Nurra Reclamation Consortium to use the funds and create the infrastructureAlmost 5 million euros of regional funds have been invested in the Calich lagoon to enhance the production potential of the wetland. But the work remains unfinished.
The Region had delegated the use of the funds and the construction of the infrastructure to the Nurra Reclamation Consortium, protagonist of important interventions for environmental protection in the Alghero pond. But to date the Region has not taken charge of the work to entrust it to management through a public tender. An initial regional loan was allocated in 1996 for the reorganization of the lagoon.
A further 5 million euros were financed by the Region in 1999 to complete the work on a structure that was never taken over. «Nothing was done until 2017 even though the completed works were tested. So the Region has given us a further 100 thousand euros for the maintenance of the works, but today we risk needing other restoration interventions", said Gavino Zirattu, president of the Nurra Reclamation Consortium and Anbi Sardegna, who spoke at meeting, which took place in the work area on the banks of the lagoon, in the presence of the mayor of Alghero Mario Conoci, the president of the regional council Michele Pais and the president of the fishermen's cooperative "the gulf and the lagoon" Ferruccio Caneo.
The latter in particular underlined the importance of infrastructure for the development of fisheries in a sustainable manner. President Pais for his part assured the support of the Region, as has already happened in recent years.
