New experimental parking areas in Alghero, available from June 15th to September 30th, will provide over 1,500 parking spaces along the coast and in the urban area. These free and paid parking spaces will reorganize availability, especially in the Maria Pia pine forest area. Along the coast road, parking will be available next to the Chalet (550 spaces) and the Hotel Oasis (300 spaces), as well as in the final area of Viale Primo Maggio adjacent to the Palacongressi (200 spaces). Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto's council approved the parking fee plan yesterday, deciding to reduce costs for users. The fee for 20 minutes will be reduced by 20 cents (from 70 to 50 cents), with a reduction of 60 cents for an hour (from €2.10 to €1.50). Free parking for residents will be confirmed, with applications submitted last season still valid. This year, the service will be optimized with the provision of public restrooms at each parking area. While the possible availability of additional parking spaces along the coast is being evaluated, the availability of free parking is confirmed and expanded for the remaining areas made available by the Administration. The areas identified are: Via Eduard Toda – Via Nulauro (55 parking spaces), Viale Giovanni XXIII (75 parking spaces), Via V. Emanuele (Campo Don Bosco – 105 parking spaces), Via Aldo Moro (80 parking spaces), Via degli Orti (30 parking spaces), Via Enrico Costa (45 parking spaces), and Viale Burruni – Parco R. Caria (110 parking spaces). "We continue to improve parking facilities with new rest areas that meet the needs expressed by residents and tourists," said Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto. "With this initiative, which is being improved year after year, we aim to decongest traffic in central areas. Above all, we seek to encourage alternative forms of mobility while simultaneously accommodating users by cutting fares, sending a concrete signal." The new areas are part of an overall strategy to redesign urban mobility and the system of rest areas dedicated to residents, "which aims," says Councilor for Urban Planning and Mobility Roberto Corbia, "to encourage more orderly travel and reduce traffic pressure in the city center. This is part of the Administration's plan to promote sustainable mobility, reduce car use, and encourage alternative forms of transportation in the city." Residents wishing to take advantage of free parking in front of the Maria Pia Pine Forest must submit an expression of interest (along with both sides of the vehicle registration document, a valid identity document, and a valid certificate of residence or self-certification in accordance with Legislative Decree 445/2000) to Alghero In House by email to passresidenti@algheroinhouse.com.
