Approximately fifty attempts at the so-called "false carabiniere" scam targeting elderly people were reported in two days by the Carabinieri in various towns in the Sassari area. This is a growing practice of defrauding vulnerable individuals, with some successful cases reported to law enforcement .
The mayor of Ossi, Pasquale Lubinu, raised the alarm, addressing his fellow citizens by emphasizing that "no real police officer will ever come asking for money to resolve a car accident or something similar. Therefore, I urge anyone with elderly parents to inform them of this type of shameful scam perpetrated against lonely and vulnerable people."
The Carabinieri, engaged in the prevention campaign in the Sassari area, renews its invitation to be wary of telephone requests for money, jewellery or other valuables made by strangers, even when they identify themselves as members of the police force, and to immediately contact the Emergency Number 112 in case of doubts or suspicious situations.
