San Gregorio, volunteers and forest rangers are still working on the cleanup: the hunt for the arsonists is underway.

It was a grueling job under the blazing sun, amid the ash and the acrid smell of smoke. The cleanup operation in the forest devastated by Saturday's fire in San Gregorio began very early today and continued throughout the day, clearing the still-smoking areas and repeatedly traversing the terrain by crews on the ground to double-check and secure everything.

The danger seems to have passed, but monitoring of the forest at the foot of the Sette Fratelli will continue in the coming days. In short, a forest that still needs protecting.

This morning, men and vehicles capable of traversing even the steepest terrain arrived on site. They included workers from the Campuomu forestry station, Azieda Forestas, volunteers from Masise, Nos, and the Alpine troops stationed in Sinnai, who also arrived with their own Blitz module. On the ground were a Scam tank with an 1,800-liter water tank, invaluable for these operations, Land Rovers, and other vehicles.

A targeted, carefully planned, and decisive operation that involved everyone in a fight to secure the area.

Investigations have also begun to identify the arsonists who set the fires in at least two previously identified locations, and there may be a third. A deliberate act, planned to cause damage, is everyone's perception, amidst anger and dismay in one of the areas that has always been among the most beautiful in the south of the island.
