The rector of the University of Cagliari, Francesco Mola, after a series of reports from students and university staff of threats and harassment suffered near university facilities, met this morning in the prefecture with the prefect and the police commissioner of Cagliari and the representatives of the police to expose some critical issues that have emerged in particular in recent days, to express his concern for the reports received and for the growing fear among students in frequenting university areas, especially in the evening hours.

«I could not leave unheeded the many reports and demonstrations of fear from students and university staff – said Mola – although these episodes did not occur on the university premises, safety and protection must nevertheless be guaranteed in the adjacent public areas so that the peaceful participation in university life is not compromised. Today an important step forward in this direction has been taken. We will soon organize a public event to continue discussing safety and liveability."

The Prefect ensured maximum collaboration and commitment to greater supervision by the police in the areas close to the university premises, which are less populated than others. While there will soon be another meeting with the mayor of Cagliari, Paolo Truzzu, for the definition of other common actions.

«I want to thank the prefect for the timeliness with which he responded to the request for a meeting, the commissioner and the police for the spirit of collaboration, all converging towards the definition of common strategies aimed at stemming the phenomenon. And I thank them because with their constant and continuous commitment they guarantee the safety of our city."
