The Sardinia Region has decided to challenge the F2i project to merge the island's airports .

This was reported by the regional councilor for Transport Antonio Moro : «We are obliged to protect our interests and the rights of the Sardinians in all the appropriate forums, therefore we will proceed with the appeal of the merger project of the management companies of the Alghero and Olbia airports in a single airport company'.

«As I already stated in the recent meeting at the ministry in the presence of deputy ministers Rixi and Bignami and the managing director of F2i, Renato Ravanelli, a role that guarantees the public «the powers of control, supervision and direction" .

Moro recalls how the Region had asked to postpone by 60 days the meetings of the two companies convened for the merger operation "in order to find the corporate methods capable of guaranteeing the two needs, the public and the private one".

But the majority shareholder of Sogeaal and Geasar, «despite the formal request of the President of the Region», convened the assemblies all the same which gave the go-ahead to a project which, «as also recognized by ENAC, does not guarantee to the Region of Sardinia the exercise of full powers in the hands of minority shareholders, starting with the request to convene the assembly» .

Not only that: the verbal reassurances provided by F2i to the Region were also disregarded, explains Moro : "In the draft of the by-laws attached to the merger resolution of the two companies, the shareholdings in the new company to be set up are reduced to a minimum".

For this reason, while hoping that "with the contribution of the ministry and of the responsible supervisory and control bodies, a positive solution to the matter can be reached" , the Region, "to protect the legitimate public interests that it represents and to also be able to ensure in the future public policies in Sardinian airports, investments and support for the development of airport traffic, will proceed with the appeal of the resolution".
