Accident during the procession: a finger of Sant'Efisio is broken
The statue damaged while being replaced inside the case at Villa San PietroVideo di Gian Marco Orrù
Accident with damage to the statue of the warrior martyr in Villa San Pietro during the return procession of Sant'Efisio towards Cagliari.
The index finger of the right hand broke as the simulacrum was being placed back inside the case, before continuing on its journey.
The statue had to be repositioned by inserting it “edge-wise”, to pass through the opening. Instead, those who were transporting it tried to put it back in its place “flat”. Someone, as can be clearly heard in Gian Marco Orrù’s video, tried to warn that it wasn’t right that way. But the maneuver continued. The lever on the finger was “fatal”: the crack in those conditions was inevitable.
After the accident, a restoration was assured that will arrive soon, after the conclusion of the celebrations. And the precedents were remembered: something similar had happened in 1943, the year of the bombings. But also more recently, in Su Loi.
