Omicron variant alert in Sardinia. A passenger who returned from Africa and landed in Sardinia on Sunday night tested positive for Covid.

The asymptomatic subject left Africa and made a stopover in Holland and Fiumicino before landing on the island. Here he tested positive for nasopharyngeal swab and all 130 passengers on the plane were quarantined.

On Thursday morning they will also perform the molecular swabs, and if someone tests positive they will trigger the tracing with all their close contacts. In case of negativity, everyone will still have to remain in quarantine for ten days and carry out a second swab. All in compliance with the provisions contained in the ordinance of November 26 by Minister Speranza, which subjects eight African states considered at risk for the Omicron variant to special supervisory measures.

THE TORRES PLAYERS - On the Rome-Alghero flight there were also some Torres players with managers and technicians. They were returning from the trip to Santa Maria Capua Vetere, in Campania, where they had played the Serie D championship match against the Gladiator team.

"Some members of the rossoblù team group - reads a note from the Sardinian company - could potentially have come into contact with a positive Covid-19: as a precaution and in compliance with government measures, the aforementioned staff and team members are in preventive quarantine pending to undergo a molecular swab, monitored by the medical staff ".

THE SEQUENCING - To understand if the first passenger is positive for the mutation found for the first time in South Africa, however, it is necessary to wait until next week. Only then should the Aou of Sassari Microbiology and Virology laboratory complete the sequencing of the virus.

"As established by the new protocol, as soon as the positivity of the passenger arriving from abroad was confirmed, the tracking and preventive measures were started not only for the passengers who traveled alongside him, but for all the people who were on that flight ", explains the head of the Ats Sardinia North Prevention Department, Francesco Sgarangella.
