A new heatwave begins: thermometers reach 44°C. A warning from the fields: fruit, vegetables, and livestock at risk.

The first day of a new heatwave that will bring temperatures up to 44 degrees Celsius to Sardinia, with a peak expected between Sunday and Monday.

The regional Civil Protection alert, issued yesterday, is valid until 8:00 PM on August 3. The warning also includes recommendations ( READ) for protecting the most vulnerable, especially the elderly and children. The risk of fires also remains high.

Meanwhile, agricultural harvests are in dire straits . The scorching weather and high temperatures are bringing production to its knees. Farmers in the Sulcis region are reporting heavy damage to melon and watermelon crops, but grape and seasonal vegetable crops are also at risk. Livestock farming is also being affected. For this reason, the island's agricultural sector is renewing its appeal to institutions to provide additional support to the sector to address the emergency.
