The investment for the new purification and sewage system of Castelsardo and Lu Bagnu amounts to 24 million and 500 thousand euros.

Egas – the Sardinian government body – gave approval to the final project prepared by Abbanoa.

Egas will finance the work for 12 million and 200 thousand euros, the remaining 12 million and 300 thousand euros are candidates for financing with funds from PNRR.

« The current configuration of the purification system in the town of Castelsardo dates back to the early 1990s – explains the institution -. Previously, wastewater was discharged directly into the sea through old sewage pipes in three distinct points along the coast, causing serious sanitation problems. The three drains, called West, North, East were located respectively at the Tower of Frigianu, under the battlements of Manganella and at the end of the road "La Vignaccia"».

The definitive project therefore envisages the construction of a new purification plant and the relative systems for collecting wastewater from the town of Castelsardo and the hamlet of Lu Bagnu. In detail, the following will be built: two wastewater lifting stations in the eastern and western parts of Castelsardo and one in the hamlet of Lu Bagnu; three new pipelines in nodular cast iron for the conveyance of wastewater from Castelsardo and Lu Bagnu towards the new purification plant that will be built in the Lu Bagnu area: the first 1.2 km pipeline will be built to push the wastewater from the eastern area to the west of Castelsardo and convey them, through the second new pipeline (3.3 km long) towards the lifting plant in the western area of the town; the third pipeline, 1.6 km long, will connect the Lu Bagnu pumping plant with the new purifier; a 1.6 km long pipeline for the disposal of purified wastewater in the Rio Frigianu.

«This is a fundamental intervention for the centers of Castelsardo and Lu Bagnu – comments the president of Egas, Fabio Albieri -; the progress of the planning phases, in addition to the identification of the sources of financing, allows us to be able to foresee a concrete horizon for the realization of the works, essential for the two coastal centers with a very high tourist vocation ».
