"There is a commitment of the whole government, with great conviction, in the fight against male violence

against women. "With these words, the Minister for Equal Opportunities Elena Bonetti commented on the go-ahead in the Council of Ministers to the bill for the protection of women victims of violence, which was given the go-ahead in the Council of Ministers.

On the basis of the draft, presented by all women with ministerial positions in the Draghi government (Fabiana Dadone, Maria Stella Gelmini, Luciana Lamorgese, Elena Bonetti, Marta Cartabia, Mara Carfagna, Erika Stefani), the penalties provided for the crimes of beatings, injuries , threats, trespassing and damage have increased "if the crime is committed in the context of domestic violence by a person already warned".

In addition, the public prosecutor may also order, outside the cases already provided for (such as the flagrant crime), "the arrest of the seriously suspected person" of mistreatment in the family, personal injuries and persecutory acts.

The same provision also in the case of a "crime consummated or attempted, committed with threat or violence" (for which the law provides for "life imprisonment or imprisonment exceeding a maximum of three years") if "there are specific elements to consider serious and imminent the danger ", when" it is not possible, due to the urgent situation, to wait for the judge's ruling ".

The bill, explained the Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia, "has a twofold objective: to strengthen tools for the prevention and protection of women".

The Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese, on the other hand, underlined "with the new rules against violence against women, there will also be economic aid immediately in the investigation phase".

"I think - added Lamorgese - it is a great step forward, it is a great help to women who have been subjected to violence, whom many times do not report because they are in a difficult economic situation".
