The girlfriend of Andrea Cavallari, the 26-year-old convicted for the Corinaldo massacre who disappeared after the graduation ceremony in Bologna by not returning to prison, has also been missing since last Thursday. From what has been learned, after the ceremony the young man was alone with his girlfriend and since then they have disappeared.
"I appeal to Andrea Cavallari to hand himself over to justice," says Irma Conti, a member of the board of the Prisoners' Guarantor, "demonstrating that his was an act of weakness and not the failure of his treatment."
The boy had obtained a permit of necessity from the Surveillance magistrate. It was the first time it had been granted to him: in the application with which he had requested it he had explained that it was an exceptional event, linked to the goal achieved, namely the discussion of the thesis and proclamation. The day was in fact dedicated to the graduation and the celebration with the family.
The rector of the University of Bologna, Giovanni Molari, also spoke about the case: «The decision on the escort is up to the supervisory magistrate, not us. In recent years we have had some examples with the escort and we have organized the exam session accordingly». For Molari, despite this episode, the penitentiary university center is «certainly a positive experience, a path we are proud of, which gives the possibility of transforming detention into a path of rehabilitation and social recovery. We - he explained - do not have high numbers, we are talking about sixty students, who attend the University of Bologna. A third attend Law, then a significant part agriculture and humanistic studies. About 50% complete their studies with us, the rest with other universities because they often leave prison or are transferred».
The rector of Bologna then underlined that "management is not always easy, because it is not easy to follow the students in their paths, but there is great availability of the teachers. We also have some difficulties with data and information transfers, because the network in prison is not usable, so for exams or data transmissions we proceed mainly with the paper method. The exams are almost always done in person in prison, or online with the student in prison and the teacher outside. The degrees too, are held both inside and outside the prison, but it is always the judicial authority that decides".
