The Army is placing General Roberto Vannacci "under investigation" for the contents of his bestselling book "The World Upside Down".
The general was notified this morning by his superiors of the start of disciplinary proceedings against him with the appointment of the investigating officer of the commission specifically set up to evaluate any irregularities linked to the volume.
At the basis of the measure, as mentioned, the controversial opinions contained in the book (such as "Gays are not normal" and others) which, expressed by a general in service, could generate identification with the institution he represents, thus failing the principle of thirdness .
The formal investigation follows the summary one opened in August, immediately after publication.
The commission will evaluate the documents produced by the summary investigation, carrying out investigations, acquiring documents and transmitting the final report to the authority that ordered the investigation and a detailed information sheet to the Minister of Defense.
If behavior that does not comply with the rules emerges, disciplinary measures could be taken against the general.
Meanwhile, Vannacci took a month's leave "for family reasons", on his first day in office as chief of staff of the land operational forces . A task that has aroused controversy and attacks from the centre-left. Defense sources, however, assure: "It is not a promotion."
