A precautionary measure was executed by police in Catania against a nineteen-year-old and a twenty-one-year-old accused of domestic violence and assault, crimes aggravated by the purpose of homophobic discrimination.

At the center of the investigation, the Prosecutor's Office writes, is the "brutal beating," involving "slaps, kicks, punches, and the throwing of stools," of three young gay men at a fast food restaurant in Piazza Borsellino.

The attack was stopped thanks to the intervention of a young woman present in the club, who sprayed pepper spray into the air, making the air unbreathable, and a sanitation worker, who stopped one of the suspects while he was hitting one of his victims with a helmet.

The homophobic nature of the attack, "based on the victims' sexual orientation," investigators say, " emerged thanks to the cooperation of witnesses and the victims, who did not suffer more serious consequences thanks to the girl's intervention."

The two alleged perpetrators were ordered to remain in Catania, with instructions not to leave their home between 9 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.
