Due to human error, a mix-up of test tubes occurred last July during the transfer of an embryo at the Assisted Reproduction Center at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
Due to "a misinterpretation of the patient sequence on the operating program," the transfer was performed on the second patient on the list. In practice, an embryo from another couple was implanted in one woman.
La Repubblica reported the story today. This is why two days ago the Lombardy Region and the Ministry of Health shut down the Center's embryology laboratory for 15 days.
