Tragedy in Fregene, on the Roman coast.

A 72-year-old man of Sardinian origin, but a longtime resident of Lazio, suffered a sudden, fatal illness while on the beach with his family.

According to local press reports, the man was swimming a few meters from the shore when he fainted and went into cardiac arrest. Rescued by lifeguards, he was brought to the shoreline, where he was given CPR until emergency responders arrived. Attempts to save his life, however, proved futile.
