A suspension of between 7 and 14 days: this is the decision taken during the extraordinary meeting of the class council on the two 17-year-old students who attend the Romanazzi institute in Bari and who last week brought into class and used against a teacher a pellet gun.

During the class council meeting, which was also attended by the families of the two students, the hypothesis of re-education and entrustment to the third sector would also have been examined.

According to what has emerged so far, one of the two 17-year-olds brought the toy gun to class while the other pulled the trigger on the teacher. The Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, also spoke on the episode, speaking by telephone to the head teacher of the Bari school to express "my solidarity with the person of the teacher and with the school".

For the minister, what happened in the Apulian capital "confirms how urgent it is to affirm the principle that a teacher must be respected in any case and that any offense or violence will be effectively sanctioned".

"The culture of rules and respect must start from school", added Valditara, highlighting that "the reform of the conduct rating and the institution of suspension goes precisely in this direction" and that it is up to Parliament to approve it. "We must not leave 'bully' students at home but help them concretely understand the mistakes made and the duties that come from belonging to a community", he concluded.
