A car driven by a 16-year-old , and in which four other minors (between 14 and 16 years old) were travelling, left the road after accelerating to avoid a Carabinieri checkpoint and while the soldiers were chasing the car.

After the fleeing car crashed into the guardrail , a 16-year-old passenger died, while the other four were hospitalized. Three of them have been discharged so far and are expected to recover within a few days, while the fourth is awaiting a prognosis.

The traffic accident occurred last night around 2:00 a.m. in Orta Nova, in the Foggia province. The vehicle involved is a Renault Megane station wagon with Polish license plates . The car apparently left the road after traveling several kilometers at the Orta Nova exit to escape a possible police checkpoint. According to what has been reconstructed so far, the teenagers accelerated upon seeing the Carabinieri car at a checkpoint. A chase ensued, during which the teenagers took a curve at high speed , skidded, and crashed into the guardrail . Emergency services and law enforcement rushed to the scene and are reconstructing the incident.
