Air traffic has been severely slowed throughout Italy due to a series of anomalies in the data transmission network supporting air traffic control services across the country.

The announcement was made by ENAV, which specifies: "Starting at 6:00 a.m., in light of the progressive increase in air traffic and the persistence of anomalies, to continue to guarantee maximum operational safety," ENAV informs, "flow regulation measures have been introduced, which involve a temporary reduction in aircraft management capacity in Italian airspace."

In Sardinia, several flights have already been reported delayed at major airports : at Costa Smeralda , almost all morning flights to Milan and Bergamo are delayed, as are departures to Paris and Krakow. In Alghero, the 8:55 ITA Airways flight to Milan Linate is scheduled to depart at 11:15 , while the WizzAir flight to Belgrade has been cancelled . Passengers are therefore advised to check their flight status.

Enav currently excludes that these anomalies are linked to a hacker attack or sabotage attempts.

Further problems, with flight delays, are being reported at airports also due to the EasyJet staff strike .
