There is a detention for the case of the theft that took place in the Basilica of San Nicola in Bari on the night between Monday and Tuesday. He is a 50-year-old of Moroccan nationality who has a small criminal record and who is now in prison awaiting validation on charges of burglary aggravated by violating a place of worship.

According to the reconstruction of the investigators, around 4 in the morning he had arrived in the church square by bicycle, he would have ripped up a grating next to the bell tower and then entered the building by breaking through a wooden side door.

From the nave and the crypt he would take away, in addition to the change of the offerings, a gold ring, the gospel book with the three silver spheres and a medallion containing a vial of the sacred manna, torn from the hands of the statue of St. Nicholas. The man was identified thanks to the images of the surveillance cameras of the Basilica.
