He bit her tongue off during an argument in the square , in front of several witnesses.
It happened last night in Arezzo, in Piazza Guido Monaco , where a 29-year-old woman was seriously injured after being attacked by her partner while he was trying to kiss her .
According to witnesses, including a young woman who picked up the severed part of her tongue that fell to the ground, the man bit his partner so violently that she was mutilated.
The woman was rescued by 118 and transported to the emergency room of the Arezzo hospital of San Donato, where the paramedics managed to reattach her tongue.
The attacker attempted to flee but was stopped by some passers-by, including a group of Dominican citizens. The man was reported for serious bodily harm.
Authorities are considering activating the red code, the protocol reserved for cases of violence against women.
The paramedics from the Croce Bianca of Arezzo and the Carabinieri intervened on site and are collecting testimonies.
