Antonello Spanu, the 57-year-old hiker originally from Ceccano, in the Frosinone region, lost since last Saturday on Mount Gorzano, in Amatrice, was recovered lifeless. The body was in a cliff at about 2,000 meters.

Having identified some of its objects above the snowpack, it was possible to delimit the research area in which the National Alpine Rescue and Speleological Corps, the Fire Brigade, the Guardia di Finanza and the IX Alpine Regiment of the Italian Army participated. In support of the activities also the soldiers of the Carabinieri, the volunteers of the Italian Red Cross and the staff of the municipality of Amatrice.

Spanu asked for help by phone on Saturday afternoon, saying he lost his bearings due to a sudden deterioration in weather conditions.
