Afternoon of terror today in Padua. In a firefight with the carabinieri, a 55-year-old man was killed, already reported for stalking, identified under his ex-wife's house. The woman alerted the military and a patrol arrived at the scene. They explained to the 55-year-old that he had to leave and if at first he seemed determined to leave, he got back into the van and pretended to reverse. Suddenly he put into first gear and headed straight for a carabiniere, running him over and crushing him between the nose of the van and the service car. Then he got out and, with a dagger in his hand, headed towards the soldier. The colleague then pulled out his pistol and fired four shots. The attacker collapsed on the asphalt.

On the street people were screaming, running away.

The man was rescued and taken to the hospital where he died shortly after.

The 40-year-old soldier overwhelmed by the van suffered serious injuries and broken legs. He is hospitalized, but his condition does not give cause for concern at the moment.

The carabiniere who fired his service pistol, after an initial moment of shock, remained at the scene of the shooting, collaborating with his colleagues to reconstruct those few minutes of madness in detail.
