Struck by a sudden illness: she, Laura Porta, a 37-year-old nurse from Bolotana (father of Cagliari), died. The baby she was carrying - she was eight months pregnant - is in very serious condition.

The drama, which began yesterday afternoon, took place in Pistoia, where the nurse had moved for some time for work: she worked at the Prato prison and was a volunteer at the Misericordia of Pistoia.

Laura Porta was at home with her partner Antonio Fasano when she felt ill.

She was immediately admitted to hospital, in desperate conditions: the doctors tried for a long time to resuscitate her and tried to bring the baby to light.

The woman didn't make it: her heart stopped beating at 10pm. The child is now in serious condition at Meyer in Florence.

«Hers was a well-liked family», says the mayor of Bolotana, Francesco Manconi, «we cling to them, Laura's mother, father and brother, in this moment of terrible pain».

"We feel strongly about Laura's partner and family following this enormous tragedy." These are the words of David Nucci, president of the interprovincial nurses' association of Florence and Pistoia.

«In this dramatic moment – continues Nucci – I also want to add a personal memory. Laura had been a student of mine: she was a colleague with great motivation and contagious enthusiasm. Even after graduation he continued to want to study, deepen his knowledge and grow professionally. Her sudden death, in a moment of great happiness like the one she was experiencing with motherhood, leaves us speechless. We are close to his family, his partner and their child who is fighting for his life."

The health company says that everything possible has been done to try to save the thirty-seven year old.
