After hours and hours of useless negotiations, at dawn the carabinieri broke into the Arma barracks in Asso, in the province of Como , where a brigadier , Antonio Milia , had barricaded himself after shooting the station commander, Doriano Furceri.

Vain help for the latter: he was found lifeless in an office.

"I killed him," Milia had said during the negotiations.

During the blitz that led to Milia's arrest, a GIS soldier was injured, not seriously.

The other people present in the barracks at the time of the events were safe : it is a female carabiniere, who spent the night locked in a dormitory, in safety, and the families of the other soldiers, who were in the service quarters, at a distance from the assailant.

FURCERI AND MILIA - The reasons that prompted the sergeant to kill his superior are now being investigated.

Doriano Furceri had served for some years in Bellano, from where he was moved due to environmental incompatibility.

In the historic center of the town on the eastern shore of Lake Como, some writings against the soldier, married and with three children, had appeared: "Hands off the wives of others".

It is not known whether these accusations are connected with the gesture of Brigadier Antonio Milia. What is certain at the moment is that Milia had been hospitalized in the psychiatry ward of the San Fermo della Battaglia hospital (Como) as suffering from problems of psychological distress and subsequently discharged and placed in convalescence for several months. Judged suitable for service by a Hospital Medical Commission, he had returned to service a few days ago and was currently on vacation.
