The former head physician of the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento, Saverio Tateo, and his deputy, Liliana Mereu, have been fully acquitted by the preliminary investigations judge of the Trento court , Marco Tamburrino, from the charges of joint and continuous mistreatment of the department's staff.
According to the judge, who applied article 530 paragraph 2 of the code of criminal procedure, the fact does not exist.
The proceedings arose from investigations following the disappearance, on March 4, 2021, of gynecologist Sara Pedri.
The prosecution, represented by the prosecutor Maria Colpani, had requested a sentence of four years, two months and twenty days for both. From the beginning of the proceedings the defendants, through their lawyers, contested every charge.
