Relief for two years for the hiring of young people, women and disadvantaged workers . And an allowance of 100 euros next January for employees with incomes up to 28 thousand euros .

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni together with half of the government presented the upcoming news on work and taxes to the unions . And he put a new decree on the table on May 1st - as already renamed - after last year on that date the rules on inclusion were approved, with the farewell to Citizenship Income, on the reasons for fixed-term contracts and on cutting the tax wedge by up to 7 points.

Now the new measures are contained in the Cohesion decree, which reforms the relevant policies on the matter, and in a legislative decree, as part of the implementation of the fiscal delegation, today being examined by the Council of Ministers.

The objective, as highlighted by Meloni at the table with the unions, is to continue to support employment growth, the reduction of unemployment and the inactive, i.e. those who do not have a job and are not even looking for one, to bring them back in the market . And also to defend the purchasing power of families and workers, "especially those most exposed".

In particular, for work , measures are arriving to support the employment of young people, women and some categories of disadvantaged workers : with the reduction of social security contributions for new hires for two years. Alongside these, ad hoc provisions are envisaged to encourage the launch of new distinct activities for the Centre-North and the South, explains the Prime Minister. And furthermore , "actions to retrain" the workers of large companies in crisis are being made to encourage the intersection of job supply and demand.

On the tax front, an allowance of 100 euros will be paid in January 2025 for employees with a total income of no more than 28 thousand euros with a spouse and at least one dependent child , or for single-parent families with a single dependent child . Some have already defined it as the "Befana bonus".

With the Cohesion decree the government aims to accelerate the implementation of cohesion policies which provide 75 billion euros for Italy, of which 43 billion of European resources. European funds that are allocated to the country every seven years. And which must be spent, allocating it to labour, social and business support policies.
