A large-scale fire, driven by sirocco winds, has reached the town of Santo Stefano Quisquina in the province of Agrigento. More than one hundred people have already been evacuated as a precaution.

Of particular concern are an oxygen depot, the Ignazio Attardi clinic, a gas station, and a fireworks factory.

Numerous teams of firefighters and forestry corps, as well as helicopters, intervened on the scene.

The mayor of Santo Stefano di Quisquina, Francesco Cacciatore, described a "dramatic situation," urging residents of the Canfuto and Bosco districts to leave their homes "immediately." Anas (National Road Authority) announced that, due to the fire, the state road 118 "Corleonese Agrigentina" has been temporarily closed in both directions from km 71.600 to km 73.800, in Santo Stefano Quisquina.

In Agrigento, after midnight, another fire broke out in the Addolorata park, known as Icori park, destroying the Mediterranean scrub. Firefighters and forest rangers worked for a long time in thick smoke and suffocating heat to put out the flames.
