The accident that caused the death of an operator in the port of Bari, Angelo Rossini, aged 51, occurred during the unloading operations of a container ship. According to a first reconstruction currently being verified, the man would have been hit in reverse by a stacker, a machine used on the quay to attach containers that are loaded or unloaded from ships.

The dynamics are not yet clear also because no one would have witnessed the accident apart from the other operator who was operating the machinery. As far as we know, the latter, like the victim, are highly experienced workers. Rossini, who was an employee of a cooperative that supplies labor to the port, Nazario Sauro, was rescued while still alive by 118 personnel, but died shortly after.

The investigating magistrate ordered the seizure of the machinery. Staff from Spesal, the harbor master's office and the port authority and the police intervened on site.

The unions have called a strike at the airport.
