Robbed the sick in dying, nurse in trouble

He stole ATMs from dying patients , he even did it against a woman who had just died.

A 55-year-old health worker who works at the Santo Stefano di Prato hospital, surgery department, was discovered by the carabinieri, who reported her for aggravated theft and computer fraud .

After having stolen the cards from the patients, the health care staff went shopping for amounts of less than 25 euros so as not to enter the PIN code , which of course they did not know. The expenses were made in shops in Prato, on dates and times incompatible with the situation, since the robbed people were hospitalized and, due to the seriousness of their hospitalization, they certainly could not use the cards.

The investigation was triggered by the complaint of an eighty-year-old father who, on the day of the death of his daughter who was hospitalized in surgery, noticed bank movements credited to his account . The man, indignant and pained, immediately went to the carabinieri who, thanks to the cameras of the shops where the purchases had been made, identified the nurse.

The investigations did not stop, the military thus identified other victims. Several other robbed patients and even a medical colleague who was in hospital at the time following a car accident.

The collaboration of the health management of the Prato hospital was decisive. " We were the first to be ashamed of what happened , because obviously the family members entrust their loved ones to us in all respects. We are very sorry and we immediately collaborated in the investigation", said the director of the hospital Sara Melani.
